I agree about how annoying it is that online businesses do this. If you wanted to walk into a department store to see what kind of items were for sale, there would be no problem.
I get completely turned off by pushy sales techniques, and it looks like I am not the only one.
I would be much more likely to try a site if I could browse and make my own decisions without being told I have to give my email address. Imagine walking into Macy's and being stopped and having a salesperson stop you and say, excuse me, before you browse the store, I am going to need your contact information.
